Administrator instructions

To report an error on today's or tomorrow's Main Page, please add it to the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quote of all or part of the text in question will help.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones: The current date and time is displayed in Coordinated Universal Time (17:16 on 22 January 2019), not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}}, which will not give you a faster response, and in fact causes problems if used here. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • Done? Once an error has been fixed, or has rotated off the Main Page, or has been acknowledged as not an error, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history for discussion and action taken.
  • No chit-chat: Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.
  • Can you fix the issue yourself? If the error is with the content of an article linked from the main page, consider attempting to fix the problem rather than reporting it here.

  • As the author of the lead hook, I was a bit taken aback by the vast overhaul of the hook from that which was approved by Yoninah after lots of involvement by FunksBrother in the discussion.. The hook was approved as "... that in June 2018, 151 North Franklin (pictured) became the new corporate headquarters for CNA Insurance, which has been headquartered in the Chicago Loop since 1900?". The hook is currently presented as "... that CNA Insurance retained its almost 120-year presence in the Chicago Loop by moving its corporate headquarters in 2018 to 151 North Franklin (pictured)? " @Gatoclass and Fish and karate: have contributed to the changes in the prose. Now the hook seems to be about the company's presence in the loop rather than the emphasis that the hook had placed on a continuous headquarter in the Chicago Loop since 1900. Can we revert to a hook that uses the phrase "headquartered in the Chicago Loop since 1900" somehow since that is the fact of emphasis rather than making the emphasis about some nebulous "almost 120-year presence in the Chicago Loop".-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 15:55, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger: The previous hook was apparently revised because it used the word "headquarters" twice. Can you suggest a wording that does what you want but doesn't repeat the word? --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:21, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) ALT1 "…that in June 2018 CNA Insurance moved its corporate headquarters to 151 North Franklin, maintaining its continuous presence in the Chicago Loop since 1900". ‑ Iridescent 16:27, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
Iri, that seems fine to me, and pretty close to what's there now (which also seems fine to me, actually), but if i understand right, I think Tony's looking for something to emphasize they've maintained their HQ there, not just maintained a presence there. --Floquenbeam (talk)
    (ec)Floquenbeam ALT2 "... that by relocating to 151 North Franklin (pictured) in 2018, CNA Insurance maintained its continuous streak of being headquartered in the Chicago Loop since 1900?"-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 16:32, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
    N.B. the prior hook was tweaked in several ways at Template:Did you know/Queue/1 and one was to remove the word June. Thus ALT1 would need to be tweaked.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 16:34, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm pretty confident someone will object to "continuous streak". Let's get a few more opinions and/or suggestions; we have 7 hours. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:36, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
O.K., but I object to ALT1's phrase that reverts to presence in the Chicago Loop. How about ALT3 "... that by relocating to 151 North Franklin (pictured) in 2018, CNA Insurance continued its streak of being headquartered in the Chicago Loop since 1900?"-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 16:38, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
ALT4: ... that in 2018, 151 North Franklin (pictured) became the new corporate headquarters for CNA Insurance, which has been based in the Chicago Loop since 1900? Yoninah (talk) 16:42, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
(ec great minds and all that) "... that in June 2018, 151 North Franklin (pictured) became the new corporate headquarters for CNA Insurance, which has been based in the Chicago Loop since 1900?"; or "... that in June 2018, CNA Insurance, which has been based in the Chicago Loop since 1900, moved to its new headquarters at 151 North Franklin (pictured)?". I prefer the second, but understand it might go against DYK guidelines on the positioning of the subject at hand. Bazza (talk) 16:45, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the compliment, Bazza 7. I think the first is preferable because it keeps the focus on the target article. Yoninah (talk) 16:47, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Part of the reason I changed the original hook was because it puts the emphasis on CNA Insurance rather than the building, and it seems to me the above proposed alts do the same. I'm not sure if I can come up with an alternative at short notice however. Gatoclass (talk) 16:54, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

In re-reading the proposed alts (ALTs4 plus) I'm reminded of a major reason I altered the original hook - it doesn't explain that 151 Franklin is also in the Loop. This leads to confusion when you go to the article and read that the building is in the Loop, because the hook implies that the HQ has moved out of the Loop for the first time in ~120 years. So I still think an alternative wording would be preferable. Gatoclass (talk) 17:00, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

ALT5: ... that in 2018, 151 North Franklin (pictured) in the Chicago Loop became the new corporate headquarters for CNA Insurance, which has been based in the same business district since 1900? Yoninah (talk) 17:06, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
