Waiting until the day the SI units are redefined and only then discussing whether to put them on the main page seems like a bad plan.[edit]

This regards this revert

Is it really true that you don't allow upcoming entries to be discussed until there is zero time left to make a decision?

The redefinition of the base units for the metric system happens on 20 May 2019. I am hoping to get this article mentioned on the main page on that day.

Alas, I also have a hot project and if I don't make my deadline because I spent too much time navigating the politics of getting things mentioned on the main page the toy I am working on will miss Christmas. :(

@Guy Macon: You'll find this talk page to be lightly patrolled, so your best bet is to keep this on the help desk. The guidelines for the current events portal are basically non-existent, except that they should be sourced and are never signed. You can look at the boxes for any other day for examples. As for your changes, announcements of events are often removed for being somewhat trivial, but not always. In this case, I would wait until the 20th. Finally, as you were told on the help desk, ITN is different from the current event portal. You can nominate articles on WP:ITN/C. Cheers! Isa (talk) 13:47, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Please replace

<span id="coordinates" class="noprint">[[Portal:Current events/Edit instructions|Edit instructions]]</span>

with

<span id="coordinates" class="noprint sysop-show">[[Portal:Current events/Edit instructions|Edit instructions]]</span>

to hide the link from non-sysops, who can't edit the page. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 18:56, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Not done: The instructions are not for administrators, they're for regular users who want to add events to the individual days. Isa (talk) 07:12, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

WP:CEN is now open![edit]

To all interested parties: Now that it has a proper shortcut, the current events noticeboard has now officially opened for discussion!

WP:CEN came about as an idea I explored through a request for comment that closed last March. Recen research has re-opened the debate on Wikipedia's role in a changing faster-paced internet. Questions of WP:NOTNEWS and WP:Recentism are still floating around. That being said, there are still plenty of articles to write and hopefully this noticeboard can positively contribute to that critical process.

Thank you for your participation in the RFC, and I hope to see you at WP:CEN soon! –MJLTalk 17:08, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
